Thanksgiving, sorted

Where to find a turkey

Need a little help this year?

There’s no shame in it. These groups are glad to help, and many of the boxes come with a whole meal.

Many programs ask you to register ahead and some have already filled. Don’t see one near you? Dial 2-1-1 or search 2-1-1 Colorado.

Buying a fresh one?

Order early, because local birds sell out. Western Daughters Butcher Shoppe at 3326 Tejon St. in Denver is taking Thanksgiving pre-orders.

Your neighborhood butcher or grocery meat counter may still have room on its list, so it’s worth a quick call. Know a great Colorado farm or butcher? Tell us and we’ll check it out.

Have one to give?

Denver Rescue Mission and Care and Share both collect frozen turkeys the week before Thanksgiving, and one extra bird goes a long way.

Ways to give thanks

Set up your own

You don’t need a committee. Here’s how to start something small on your street, at your office or with your kids.

Run a turkey or food drive
  1. Call a food bank first and ask what they need and when. Then pick your drop-off date.
  2. Choose a spot with an easy drop-off, such as an office, school or church lobby.
  3. Ask for shelf-stable items, or frozen turkeys only if you can keep them frozen and deliver them the same day.
  4. Post it to neighbors with one date, one place and one short list.

Care and Share lets you host a turkey drive, and Denver Rescue Mission has a turkey fundraiser page.

Bring your group to volunteer
  1. Pick a date and count who’s in.
  2. Book ahead. Food Bank of the Rockies takes up to 30 people in the morning and about 20 in the afternoon, with advance arrangements.
  3. Check ages. Under 16 needs an adult there, and 10 is the minimum at their Volunteer Center.

Set up a group shift

Host a neighborhood Friendsgiving
  1. Pick a Sunday before Thanksgiving, so nobody has to choose.
  2. Keep it potluck, and ask everyone to label allergens.
  3. Invite the neighbor who might otherwise eat alone.
  4. Put a donation box by the door for a local food bank.
Small ways to say thank you
  • Write a thank-you note to a teacher, nurse or the person who plows your street.
  • Thank a veteran you know on Nov. 11, and ask about their service if they’d like to share.
  • Shop a local market on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28.
  • Check on a neighbor before the first big snow.
  • Have the kids each pick one can for the food drive.

Running something open to the public? Send it over and we’ll review it for the guide.

A local outing. Maybe your next move.

Love the area? Explore homes, too.

A small selection of homes advertised for sale, organized by the same cities as your November plans. Open a listing for photos and details, or ask Joshua about arranging a showing.

Dated public-source snapshots, not an automatically updating IDX feed or a complete inventory. Prices and availability can change. Listings may be held by other brokerages, identified below; this is not a claim they are Zelcer Group listings. City searches may include nearby postal-area neighborhoods. Property viewing requires a confirmed appointment and access permission—attending an event does not authorize entering a home.

Thanks for exploring with me.

I made this guide to help you enjoy more of the place we call home. If it made planning a little easier, I’d love for you to follow along.

I’ll be sharing more local guides, useful real-estate insights, and things worth knowing throughout the year. Helpful information, thoughtfully put together. No fluff.

Out making memories? Share a photo of your outing and tag @coloradowithjosh and @zelcergroup. I’d love to see where the guide takes you.

November events by city

Prefer a readable list? See dates, prices and addresses without using the map.

Before you go

Check the organizer’s page for changes, registration, supplies, weather and access. Times are Mountain Time. If no price or time is shown, the listing didn’t state one, so check the organizer’s page. Free admission doesn’t mean every activity or purchase is free. Food programs set their own rules, and supplies can run out.

A guide, not a complete directory

Checked November 2, 2026. “Checked Nov 2” means we saw the date on the organizer’s own page or event listing, not that we spoke with them. “Call first” means we couldn’t confirm it. Many listings come from public Facebook events and public calendars such as Mile High on the Cheap, and each card links to its source. Some Facebook pages may ask you to sign in. Listing here isn’t an endorsement. Map pins are approximate. Not affiliated with Facebook or any organizer listed.
